Pastor’s Perspective

Pastoral SharingThe Conditions for Revival                pastor Tom

In 1 Kings Chapter 18   We see four very clear conditions for revival. Elijah says:

#1 Solidarity or Unity

30 Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of theLordthat had been thrown down. 31 Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, “Israel shall be your name,” 32 and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord.

Like in the day of Pentecost, we must come together to receive as one family the blessings of God. We have one faith, one hope, and one baptism in the life of Christ. This makes us all related, having one Father as our God. Like only a mother can bear a child, so life must beget life—our new life is in Christ.

#2 Separation from the world

32 And he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two seahs of seed.

Revival is separating ourselves from the sin of the world and attaching ourselves to the Savior of it. In this way, we can be truly sanctified, doing whatever it takes to resist the devil. We can be in the world, but like a visitor from a foreign country, we’re not a naturalized citizen of it and in this case should never become one!

#3 Sacrifice

32 and with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord.

33 And he put the wood in order and cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, “Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.” 34 And he said, “Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. And he said, “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time. 35 And the water ran around the altar and filled the trench also with water.

Revival involves sacrifice.  Not only the sacrifice of Jesus to cover our sin, but also the daily death to our pride for the prevention and destruction of it. Whatever you feed will grow. Starve something and it will die. What are you feeding the lust of your eyes, the lust of your flesh, and the pride of your life? It’s time to go on a hunger fast from it… forever.

#4 Prayer

36 And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O Lord,  God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word37 Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.”

In this prayer, you notice three elements to it. Praise. Obedience. Intercession. Three key factors in God hearing our voice and him responding with His power. Praise that signifies that you sincerely respect God and love Him. Obedience that shows Him that you are not a hypocrite whose real father is the father of lies—Satan, but a child of heaven. After getting these practices right, we can then move with humble confidence that God will hear our prayers for others. Watch the miracles pour in.
